China becomes the world's largest robot market Li Yizhong suggests strengthening independent innovation

2018-11-15
China is the world's largest robot market, and by 2020, the market size will expand to approximately $14 billion.
Li Yizhong, president of the China Federation of Industrial Economics, said in Guangzhou on the 27th that China's robot industry has developed rapidly in recent years, but there are still many problems. He suggested increasing independent innovation efforts, strengthening high-end robot technology research, creating a group of robot backbone enterprises with strong technological innovation capabilities, and cultivating a group of specialized and specialized "small giants" enterprises.
On the same day, as one of the largest robot exhibitions in China, the "2018 China (Guangzhou) International Robot, Intelligent Equipment and Manufacturing Technology Exhibition" opened in Guangzhou. More than 700 companies, including China National Machinery Group, Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, Xinsong, China National Machinery Intelligence, and Ruisong, participated in the exhibition.
In his opening speech, Li Yizhong said that last year, the cumulative sales volume of China's industrial robots was 141000, up 58.1% year on year; It is expected to exceed 150000 units this year, with a market size exceeding 6 billion US dollars. Adding service robots and special robots, it will reach 8.74 billion US dollars.
He stated that in recent years, key technologies in China's robotics industry have accelerated breakthroughs, and the trend of localization of core components has gradually emerged. Taking reducers as an example, more than 60% of China's mid to low end robots currently use domestically produced reducers. The level of independent research and development of intelligent control and application systems continues to improve, and the ability to independently design manufacturing processes also continues to improve.
At the same time, the structure of Chinese robot products is gradually developing towards the mid to high end. A large number of robot enterprises with high business level, practical relevance to the industry, and mature application solutions are gradually emerging. Last year, the sales of domestic multi joint robots surpassed that of coordinate robots for the first time, becoming the leading model. Industrial robots are developing towards diversification, flexibility, and intelligence.
The application field of Chinese robots is constantly expanding, and the effect of "machine replacement" is obvious. The application field of industrial robots has gradually expanded from fields such as automobiles, 3C, packaging, warehousing and logistics to fields such as new energy, environmental protection equipment, high-end equipment, and consumer goods. The average number of robots per 10000 workers in the manufacturing industry has increased from 23 in 2013 to 50, approaching the global average.
In addition, the agglomeration process of China's robot industry has accelerated, and several robot research and development and manufacturing centers have been formed nationwide, including the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta, Beijing Tianjin region, Shenyang Harbin, and Chengdu Chongqing, each with its own characteristics.
However, Li Yizhong also pointed out that China's robot industry is still not strong in independent innovation. There is still a big gap between China and overseas countries in terms of core technologies such as human-computer interaction technology, control technology, environmental awareness and sensing technology, material technology, artificial intelligence, etc. Key parts such as precision reducers, controllers, servo motors, and high-performance drives still rely on imports.
In addition, low-level repetitive construction is quite prominent. At present, there are over a thousand robot enterprises and more than 50 robot industry parks in China, but most of them have weak competitiveness.
Li Yizhong suggested that China's robot industry should combine production, learning, research and application, strengthen the research of high-end robot technology, especially take the lead in breaking through a number of core parts and major landmark products; The government and departments should strengthen the overall planning and effective policy support for the development of the robot industry, and build a good ecosystem for industrial innovation and development. At the same time, we need to expand the application of robots in various industries and accelerate talent cultivation.
